Fighting in enemy territory is nothing new for Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante after years of fighting in Japan, but now the American Top Team fighter will step into a similar situation as he faces Josh Thomson in his hometown of San Jose on Oct 9 as the two lightweights are set to square off in Strikeforce.

The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday by Cavalcante's manager, Alex Davis, who spoke with MMAWeekly Radio about the match-up.

"It's a very good fight, I think it's a great fight for JZ," Davis said about the fight.

Cavalcante (15-3-1) comes to Strikeforce after defeating Katsunori Kikuno in his last fight in July for Dream. It was a long road back for the Brazilian who had to deal with several injuries to his knee before coming back.

Previously ranked as a top five lightweight, Cavalcante hopes to re-earn that placement in the division and it starts with his October bout against former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson.

"For JZ, it's important to come fight on American soil. He's done very, very well in Japan, he came off some injuries and took some losses because he fought not at 100%. He took a tough fight recently, he played it safe and he won, and now he's going to fight Josh Thomson," Davis stated. "I expect him to do very, very well."

After suffering injured ribs in his last fight but still managing to get a submission win, Josh Thomson (17-3) looks to build on that win as he gets closer to the top of the lightweight division again. Thomson lost the Strikeforce lightweight belt to Gilbert Melendez in December 2009, and has vowed to remain active as he gets back to title contention.

Thomson spoke to MMAWeekly Radio last week and said that Strikeforce officials had approached him about fighting in Dream, but he opted to stay at home fight on the October 9 card instead. He will get his wish and a fight with a very tough opponent.

The bout between Thomson and Cavalcante will be part of the main televised card for Oct 9 in San Jose, headlined by welterweight champion Nick Diaz defending his belt against K.J. Noons.

“I would love to welcome Pacquiao into MMA. It would be an ideal situation for him because I don’t take guys down to the ground, and after that’s all said and done in the cage, I would be willing to step inside of the ring with him too, something we all knew Randy Couture wouldn’t do with James Toney,”

Theres No MMA going on at all right now. UFC usually steals all the shine when they have a upcoming event from any promotion. MMA live always talks about preveiws of UFC events that are weeks away even though another promotion has just had a show or are about to soon. Mir vs Cro cop is not getting ANY buzz, rightfully so.

This wouldve been a great time for SF to put on a big card that all the MMA media wouldve been talking about.

Thoughts?

Hopefully we get to hear about some more match ups for October and November Challengers cards and the fight cards for the rest of the year, if you take a month off you better announce some stuff to keep the fans interested

October will be big with the EA game coming out and 2 shows though

As revealed via an anonymous source by tremendous, a forum moderator in dutchbodybuilding.com, He said that the Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will sign with the UFC after finishing his 2 fight contract with Strikeforce.

If this is true, I guess there will be no more K-1 fights for Ubereem once he signs that contract.

The Fighter Nobody Wants To Face

The goal of any good fighter is to be the best he can be, defeat all his opponents in a matter of seconds, get several victories and be feared by other fighters, right?

Well, Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira has reached that desirable point in his career: he has not lost a fight in four years, he is willing to fight anybody at 185 or 205 pounds. His last seven fights lasted a total of nine minutes all ending in first round submissions. He is an Olympic level wrestler with world class Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has competed in ADCC against the world's best including Marcelo Garcia, Dean Lister, Braulio Estima, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza.

He is not just a lay and pray fighter, his game is to end the fight as soon as possible. For the last two years, Cacareco has been working his striking with a group of killers at Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil. Training at the team that has produced the most dangerous fighters in the world, Cacareco has added a lot of new weapons to his arsenal.

And what should be an advantage to any fighter in the world, has become a disadvantage to Cacreco because, due to his reputation and skills, very few fighters are willing to accept a fight with him. This is a fighter who would be in the mix for a title shot at middleweight and light heavyweight for sure—if given the chance.

"I was offered a fight with Machida in the UFC and Machida turned it down knowing that he would be submitted in the first round," said Cacareco. "Fighters at 205 pounds or 185 pounds like Forrest Griffin, Jon Jones, Minotouro, Gegard Musasi, King Mo, Chris Leben, Michael Bisping and many others would be easy targets for me. I would submit them in the first round. Right now, I don't see anybody in the UFC, Strikeforce, Dream or in any other show who can keep up with my game. Even their champions would have a hard time with me," added the confident Chute-Boxe fighter.

He is always ready, and just patiently waits for a call. For anybody at 185 or 205 pounds, he is willing to face them.

Check out this record in his lat 11 fights:
Alexandre Ferreira (18-6, 17 wins by submission)
W - Walter Mazurkievicz - Kimura - 10/17/2009 - 1:10 of 1st
W - Vagner Curio - Achilles Lock -	9/19/2009 - 0:16 of 1st
W - Lew Polley - Guillotine Choke - 2/29/2008 - 0:20 of 1st
W - Fabio Maldonado - Kneebar - 11/10/2007 - 0:27 of 1st
W - Rafael Monteiro - Kimura - 8/11/2007 - 1:20 of 1st
W - Branden Lee Hinkle - Heel Hook - 5/19/2007 - 0:37 of 1st
W - Rodrigo Gripp de Sousa - Rear Naked Choke - 3/10/2007 - 4:50 of 1st
L - Felipe Arinelli - Decision (Unanimous) - 10/7/2006
W - Michael Knaap - Armbar - 3/18/2006 - 3:10 of 1st
W - Julio Cesar Costa - Guillotine Choke - 11/26/2005 - 0:52 of 1st
W - Jose Freitas - Keylock - 10/15/2005 - ??? of 1st

Nobody will fight this monster. Strikeforce should sign him and have a guy that can rival anyone on any roster.
