Growing up on the south side of Chicago, Taylor faced tough battles from an early age. Chi-town is known for its rough areas, and getting involved in fighting was something of a natural progression for young Louis. Eventually, he entered the world of amateur wrestling, which ironically led him back into fighting, though this time it was through the legitimate sport of mixed martial arts.

Having compiling a record of 4-0 with three finishes, Taylor made his Strikeforce debut at "STRIKEFORCE/M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Rogers" November 2009. He suffered his first professional loss on that card, and has been chomping at the bit to get a second chance on the big stage. Having earned two knockout victories, the 31 year-old married father of two has been presented with a huge opportunity. Taylor would face veteran Joe Riggs in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers, Phoenix. Though ultimately losing to a third round submission, Taylor dominated the first two rounds, showing he belongs with the sport's elite.
