Shields confirmed the bout when speaking to MMAWeekly Radio on Tuesday night.</p> <p>"It's a go now. We finally worked it out a few days ago," he said about the fight with Henderson. "It's a done deal, it's been agreed upon by both parties as far as I know, and I think it's set to go."</p> <p>As recently as six weeks ago when Shields left to help out as assistant coach on the eleventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter," a deal had still not been sealed for the fight to happen.</p> <p>Now, both Shields and Henderson have a deal in place to put the two middleweights in the cage together in April, although according to the current Strikeforce champion, while a date and venue have been given to the fighters, the actual broadcast has yet to be determined.</p> <p>"I have a date (and) venue, but they told me to hold that back," said Shields. If the betting odds come out placing Henderson as the favorite, it's nothing new to Shields, and he'll happily play the underdog.</p> <p>"I always prefer to be the underdog. I managed to drop her a few times, but knowing that she wanted to stay on the ground, I allowed her to get back up. Last nights Strikeforce was a joke. To start off the first fight had a fighter (Raul Castillo) who looked too terrified to mount any kind of offense. The next fight was dull and went to a decision. The third fight (Rockhold v. Bradley) was atleast a fight but the referee stopped the fight and called it a TKO before Bradley had even hit the ground. The fourth fight ended in a technical draw because of an illegal blow. And finally the girls were nothing special but by far the best fight of the night.<br /> I understand that accidents happen and some fighters freeze up in the cage but the most embarassing and avoidable thing about last night was the referees. If a fight was on the ground for more than 20 seconds, they would stand them up. Thus giving the advantage to strikers and screwing the submission fighters. The referees were terrible. In one fight a fighter claimed to have received a low blow and the referee waved it off and forced him to fight. The fighter was losing badly and could have just been trying to buy some time but right after that in the same fight the other fighter got a low-blow and received "time". By time I mean about 40 seconds and was forced to continue fighting. According to the MMA rules a fighter has up to 5 minutes to recover from a low-blow.<br /> I like UFC but it needs competition. Strikeforce is the only organization that is even close right now and based on last nights event, they have a long way to go. I understand pushing the action but if we wanted to watch boxing, we would.
